Create roles and add permissions
Roles define what users can see and do in Nectari. Every user is assigned at least one role, and that role determines which features they can access, what actions they can perform, and how much of the platform's content is available to them.
There are two types of roles:
| Role | Description |
|---|---|
| General | Control access to platform-wide features such as administrative actions, template management, and global configuration. |
| Data Model | Control what a user can do within a specific data model, such as creating worksheets, editing data, or running exports. |
Before you start
Roles are applied across the entire platform, so a misconfigured role can give a user too much access or lock them out of what they need. Taking a few minutes to plan before creating roles will save a lot of troubleshooting later.
- Revisit role configurations regularly when your organization grows or new features are added.
- Keep a log of permission changes to make audits and troubleshooting easier.
- Test roles on non-production accounts first before applying them to real users.
- Limit administrative privileges to trusted administrators only.
- Document your role strategy so new admins can get up to speed quickly.
Create a role
- In the navigation panel, select the gear icon to open the Administration section.
- Select Security, then Roles.
- In the Manage dropdown, select General Roles or Data Model Roles.
- Click New.
- Enter a name and description for the role.
- Click Create. The new role appears in the list.
- Select the role you just created.
- Check or uncheck the general or data model permissions for that role.
- Click Apply Changes.
